Sacred Lotus and Water
Contest entry for Astral Footwear’s Soil and Water Creative Contest
I wanted to capture the movement and energy that flowing water has. Water comes in many forms but the flow of the rapids in a river is the strongest I associate with.

Water has life of its own, and forms that are always changing, which is why fish are incorporated into this piece if inspected closely. The Sacred Lotus was added as it often symbolizes purity, rebirth, and strength, with emphasis on rebirth for this piece as there is a constant state of change.

My inspiration for this piece comes from my growing up on whitewater rivers. The first river I can recall going down was the Nantahala in a canoe with my parents when I was three (my parents are avid paddlers).
